Enjoy singing, dancing and drumming in a variety of traditional Afro-Cuban styles;
Get the opportunity to try your hand at some of the rhythms that form the heartbeat of Cuban music - some are deceptively simple, some fiendishly challenging! - all are exciting to play and demand individual and teamwork skills to master.
Also learn the songs and dances for each rhythm; these three interdependent disciplines (rhythm, song and movement) create the total experience of folkloric Afro-Cuban music; part theatre, part dancehall, part mass.
Grupo Ase is a multi cultural collective of professional musicians and dancers, all either qualified teachers or experienced workshop leaders, with a commitment to delivering inspiring, high quality, inclusive and challenging multi-discipline sessions which remain true to the rich cultural heritage of Afro-Cuban music.
Each session also gives an insight into the cultural and historical content of the music and resource packs with musical notation, lyric sheets, maps, weblinks, bibliographies and discographies are supplied with each workshop.
‘Grupo Ase are a pleasure to work with. Consultation about the brief for our workshop was easy and straightforward and they were only too pleased to adapt to our requirements. On the day itself they delivered just the right blend of background information, live performance and hands – on participation, and the feedback from the attendees was extremely positive. The music kicked too!’
